Non Compression Gland Packing

Gland packing has traditionally been the most popular way to seal pumps and valves, spanning a long period of time. Originally, asbestos was the material of choice because it produced the most successful results in the industry.

However, as most of you know, asbestos was found to be dangerous on many health levels in 1991. Subsequently, the production of asbestos was banned and its use was immediately prohibited across all former applications. Unfortunately, nobody in the industry was able to find a suitable replacement for a period of more than ten years.

Finally, in the mid-2000’s, technological advances made it possible to bond substances that were previously incompatible with each other. This enabled the creation of materials that were actually able to surpass asbestos in performance, but without the dangers to health. The new formulation is superior to dated asbestos products in every way, but especially in the development of superior elasticity.

Increased elasticity allows superior sealing performance with compression no longer being necessary. This helps pumps produce better results over a longer period of time with less maintenance and replacement costs and less downtime.
