At Pump Solutions Australasia (PSA), innovation is at the core of everything we do. In 2015, we were approached by CBH with a challenge: develop a faster, safer, and more efficient system to transfer grain samples from their satellite laboratories into transfer trucks.
CBH’s existing process was not only slow—taking between 5 to 7 minutes—but also relied on manual handling using a bucket and a shaky step ladder. An attempted improvement using a similar pneumatic concept had failed to deliver the required efficiency.
Our Goal
To design a system that could complete the transfer in under 2 minutes, dramatically improving safety, speed, and reliability.
Our Solution
The PSA engineering team developed a fully customised system featuring:
- A German-engineered Becker Side Channel Blower (Model SV400/1)
- A custom-designed hopper and venturi, both fabricated in-house
- A seamless integration between all components to maximise performance
After an intensive R&D phase, involving multiple prototypes and rigorous testing, we achieved a breakthrough: a system that transferred the grain in just 90 seconds.
But we didn’t stop there.
Further refinements to the venturi and hopper design—ensuring they functioned in perfect harmony—led to a remarkable result: 13 seconds to complete the transfer.
The Outcome
The redesigned system not only met but far exceeded CBH’s expectations. PSA delivered the first 16 units in 2015 and has continued to supply this innovative solution ever since. To date we have rolled out nearly 50 venturi systems.
This project stands as a testament to PSA’s ability to think outside the box, deliver high-quality engineered solutions, and exceed customer expectations.
