Meet Grundfos: the World’s Largest Manufacturer of Pumps

Back

April 29, 2016 By Mike Hurlbatt

Grundfos manufactures more pumps than anyone in the world but they are more than just a volume manufacturer. They specialise in centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps and circulator pumps. They have more than 18,000 employees who help produce more than 12 million pumps per year. They also make motors and controls for other companies’ pumps.

Grundfos was established in Bjerringbro, Denmark in 1945 by their founder, the late Poul Due Jensen. The company had many names and finally settled on Grundfos in 1967. Their ownership is unique; the Poul Due Jensen Foundation owns 86% of the shares in Grundfos Holding A/S while the staff owns 2% and Mr Jensen’s family owns 12%.

All profits and capital are for the sake of the foundation and are reinvested back into the company, called the Grundfos Group. The holding company is the majority shareholder in each Grundfos company.

Applications

Grundfos is most popular in regions of the world where mining is the most prevalent. Australia is one of the major users of Grundfos pumps in the mining, gas and oil industries, especially in WA and Queensland.

Grundfos Pumps

Grundfos submersible pumps are used for dewatering, dosing, end suction and wastewater, among mining applications. Circulator pumps are used for ventilation, air-conditioning and heating in homes, office buildings, hotels and a wide range of other buildings. Grundfos pumps are also used in industry for plant maintenance, processes and as built in Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts.

In the wastewater and water supply sectors, Grundfos pumps can be used for greenhouses, water supply, irrigation and sewage applications. Booster pumps can be used in large buildings like hospitals and hotels for the water supply to each room.
